External EGR Systems

Cleaner-burning engines are being developed using lightweight cast-aluminum cylinder heads, and aluminum or plastic intake manifolds. The very hot EGR exhaust must be ducted externally to prevent heat damage to these critical aluminum alloy and plastic engine components. EGR systems are also common on diesel engines, with increasingly complex routing and durability requirements.

The typical external EGR tube is mounted between the exhaust manifold (or crossover pipe) and the EGR control valve. Because the gas temperatures can exceed 650°C (1200°F), the resulting thermal expansion loads on the tube can cause early valve, tube, or manifold failure.

As the technology leader, Senior has developed unique corrugated thin-wall, flexible EGR tube designs to solve high-temperature durability and installation problems. Since our tubing is flexible, alignment of end fittings is also much easier. A one-piece design also eliminates high stress areas that are often the source of premature failures.
